KARACHI: The Customs court approved charge sheet against suspects namely Ibadatullah son of Muhammad Usman and Omar Khalid son of Khalid Nisar who are nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband goods.
On 23 December 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted progress report and informed that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino trawler bearing registration number TLR-277 and during the search, found 51 bales of second hand clothing weighing 13, 900 kg and additional cargo other than the bona-fide Afghan cargo worth Rs574,464 and files of alloy steel (all type of hand tools worth Rs20,995,058.
He argued that at that movement, customs officials asked diver to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, customs officials seized all goods and diver was also arrested by customs department.
Investigation officer further submitted that during the investigation, it was conformed that suspect along with others are involved in smuggling of said goods and violated the customs laws.
After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and adjourned the matter for regular hearing.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
