Customs Court approves charge sheet of goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect namely Muhammad Rabbani son of Taous Khan, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 6900 kilogram monosodium glutamate etc.

On July 6, 2019, investigation officer submitted interim charge against above mentioned suspect and informed the court that on information, customs department intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TKL-298 and during the search, found 300 PP bags containing 6900 kg monosodium glutamate worth Rs1,987,476. 2100 kilograms zeera worth Rs630,000. 2880 kg white Zeera Rs630,000, 1179 kg Pista worth Rs1,768,500, 1920 kg aloo bukhara worth Rs147,000, 420 kg laghzibbadam worth Rs168,000. 480 kilograms, chenay worth Rs. 120,000. 520 kg injeer worth Rs286,000. 300 kg white musli worth Rs 20,000 and other goods.

He further submitted that during the search, he was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, he was taken into custody and goods along with vehicle were seized and moved to customs department.

After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect and directed investigation officer to arrest and produce him on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the customs act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
