LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a 14-day physical remand of a suspect, Muhammad Rafique, who was allegedly involved in tax evasion and mis-declaration in import of betel leaf.
According to details, Muhammad Rafique was arrested by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation on a tip-off that he was involved in import of betel leaf. The Customs Intelligence and Investigation also found heavy tax evasion of Rs 26 million in the wake of customs duty. Muhammad Rafique is a resident of Mughalpura, Lahore.
The Customs Investigation team presented him before the Court and asked for the judicial remand. Customs team argued that no more investigation is required from the accused.
After examining the request, Judge Nazeer Ahmad Gajana granted the judicial remand of the accused and ordered to send him jail for further trial.
