LAHORE: The duty judge of the Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-smuggling has approved judicial remand of a suspect who was arrested by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International airport while making an attempt to smuggle cell phones from China to Lahore.
A team of Investigation and Prosecution of the Lahore Customs presented the accused Naveed Bhatti before the special court after three days of physical remand where the court sent him to jail for judicial remand of 14 days.
Earlier the special court on request of customs handed over the accused to investigation team for three days for investigation.
As per sources of Customs Today Naveed Bhatti was arrested by the Customs Preventive when they seized 170 android mobile phones of assorted types from his luggage at Lahore airport. The passenger was coming from China.
As per the sources, on suspicion, the customs authorities intercepted the accused Naveed Bhatti while he was using green channel and asked him that if he had anything illegal.
The mobile phones were hidden in bottles of water which the passenger claimed that he brought that water from Saudi Arabia, it was added. The sources said that the total value of the mobile phones has been estimated at Rs5 million. Customs authorities confiscating the mobiles has registered as case and started further investigation.
