Customs court approves physical remand of suspects in contraband goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspects namely Ch Ahmed Saqib Cheema son of Chaudhry Akber Ali and Muhammad Ramzan son of Muhammad Aslam and sent them customs lock-up, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband goods.

On 14 July 2020, investigation officer of customs Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) produced them before the court and told that information was received that a Toyota Corolla car model 2000 bearing registration no LXO-1449 intercepted at airport road and the above mentioned suspects were asked to declare any contraband goods carrying in a car but they replied in negative.

Investigation officer further submits that however, during the search, customs officials found 480 Boostin injections and 1460  Lactotropin injections total 1940 Nos injections from their custody in one black color trolley bag along with wrapping/ packing material.

Investigation officer said that after the formalities, contrabands goods were seized and the above mentioned suspect also taken into custody, he says that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of others suspects, therefore, court may grant their physical remand, after the hearing court approved his request and sent them to customs lock-up on physical remand and direct investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered by Preventive Officer, Customs House Karachi for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
