Customs Court approves pre arrest bail of suspect booked in tax evasion

KARACHI: The Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Tuesday extended pre-arrest bail to suspect namely Muhammad Altaf Hussain son of Ahmed, owner of M/s Tuba International, who was booked in a case evasion of sales tax in the tune of Rs15.00 million to the national exchequer.

During the hearing, investigation officer seeks time to submit final charge sheet, therefore, court also adjourned the matter.

Earlier, above mentioned suspect had appeared before the court along with his counsel who moved an application for bail and argued that his counsel in innocent and was falsely been implicated in this case, however, counsel for the customs department opposed the bail application, after the arguments, court granted his bail against the surety of Rs.5, 00,000, court also directed above mentioned suspect to appear on next date of hearing before the court.

On last date of hearing, investigation officer produced above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that owner of M/s Tuba International and others are involved in sales tax evasion and during investigation prosecution collected evidences.

After the hearing, court had sent him to jail and directed investigation officer to submit charge sheet against them on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section as commission of tax fraud as envisaged under section 2 (37) of the Sales Tax Act 1990.
