Customs court approves remand of suspect booked in DTH smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Ijaz Qureshi son of Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi resident of Tando Adam, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggling and selling of DTH equipment etc.

On November 26, 2018, investigation officer of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on a actionable information, a team of customs intelligence, FIA, PEMRA conducted raid at Muhammadi Chowk Tando Adam and recovered illegal/smuggled items included 22 DTH receivers, 5 digital LNB, 10 Dish (small) which were taken into possession by FIA under a proper seizure memo and registered first information report (FIR) against him.

He further submitted that during the course of preliminary interrogation, he had admitted that he has been doing the illegal activities of selling of DTH equipment since long, however, he denied the allegations of being involved in hawala/hundi.

He stated that accused is not disclosing the true facts regarding the complete details of the selling of illegal satellite receivers and is required to be interrogated at length; therefore, court may grant remand in police custody for 14 days.

After hearing, the court granted request of the investigation officer and sent him on physical remand for three days. The court also directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
