Customs Court approves remand of suspects in contraband goods smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Sagheer Abbas and Muhammad Zahir Shah to customs department on physical remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband goods.

On January 26, 2019, investigation officer produced the above mentioned accused persons before the court and informed that on actionable information, a team of customs department intercepted a trailer bearing registration no: TLV-276 and recovered 59 bags weighing 4200 kgs valuing of Rs. 3,150,000.

He further submitted that prosecution needs further investigations for arrest of other culprits, therefore, court may send them to physical remand, after the hearing, court sent them on physical remand and directed customs officer produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registration under violation of under Section 2 (s) 16 & 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses (8) & (89) of Sub-Section (1) and Sub-Section (2) of Section 156 ibid read with S. no 5 of appendix-A and S.no 6 of part-1 and S. no 221 of part-III of appendix-B of import policy order, 2016 and other related laws.
