KARACHI: The Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi sent suspects namely Mehboob Ali son of Ali Akbar and Nabi Bakhsh son of Ghose Bakhsh to customs department on physical remand. The accused were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 59635 liters Iranian HSD Oil.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed the court that on credible information a team of Anti-Smuggling Organisation intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TLY-348 near Moachko check post and recovered 59635 liters Iranian HSD Oil.
He further informed the court that during the raid, customs officials asked suspects to produce lawful documents of said oil, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after formalities customs officials arrested both accused and seized said oil.
Investigation officer said that prosecution needs further investigations from suspects therefore, court may send back them to customs department. After his arguments, court sent them back to customs department on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court along with progress report on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (1) of Import and Export Control Act, 1950.
