Customs Court awards 17 days imprisonment to two in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded 17 days imprisonment along with Rs 100,000 fine each to accused persons namely Samad Khan and Allah Noor Suleman Khail after they were found guilty of attempting to smuggle 5,000 litters Iranian origin high speed diesel.

During the hearing, the accused persons along with their counsel appeared before the court and filed applications for pleading guilty and voluntarily place themselves on the mercy of the court.

After the confession of the convicts, the Special judge (Customs Taxation & Anti-Smuggling) Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi counted 17 days from when accused persons were arrested as their imprisonment.

Both accused were arrested dated August 16, 2016 and were released on bail dated September 01, 2016.

According to the prosecution, on credible information, on August 14, 2016 staff of the Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted the above named accused persons along with Bedford truck bearing registration no E-9315 loaded with 5,000 Iranian Origin HSD for its illegal disposal in open market. Above named accused persons carrying smuggled foreign origin diesel without any legal import documents into Pakistan.

After the formalities, case was registered by the custom authorities under section 156 (1) (8) (89) of the customs act, 1969.
