KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded four days imprisonment along with Rs 100,000 fine to co-accused namely Sajjad Ahmed son of Kathri Tayyab after he was found guilty of smuggling 240 mobiles phones which were smuggled from Doha by Qatar Airways.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced the co-accused before the court who filed application for pleading guilty and voluntarily place himself on the mercy of the court. The accused Sajjad Ahmed was arrested on the last date of hearing August 4, 2016 when the court had dismissed his bail application.
After the confession of the convict, the Special Judge Customs Taxation & Anti-Smuggling Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi counted four days from when accused was arrested as his imprisonment.
It needs to be mentioned here that dated July 01,2015 Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi already awarded 7 days imprisonment along with Rs1,00,000 fine to accused Zareen Masood when she was found guilty and had voluntarily placed herself at the mercy of the court.
According to the prosecution, on the night 22nd 23rd of June 2015 Muhammad Shafiq Senior Preventive Officer, intercepted co -accused Zareen Masood at International Arrival Hall, JIAP, Karachi arrived from Doha by Qatar Airways Flight number QR-610 while she was bound to leave from customs clearance, during the examination of her baggage secured assorted mobile phones in all 240 numbers.
During the investigation, she informed the customs authorities that the secured goods were belongs to co-accused Sajjad Ahmed who handed over to her for smuggling.
