Customs Court reserves verdict in 198 cell phones smuggling case

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Monday reserved its verdict on a guilty plea of mobile phone smuggler.

A case was filed against Muhammad Hanif, on the charge of smuggling mobile phones into the country. However, the suspect pleaded guilty in the court. Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi reserved the verdict to be announced during the course of day. However it was not announced. During the hearing, Investigation Officer Azhar Mehdi and the accused were present in the court.

According to the prosecution,  around 198 mobile phones were seized by Customs authorities from a passenger, Hanif, who was travelling from Dubai. The suspect had strapped 198 mobile phones in his luggage bag to hide them. The seized cell phones are worth Rs2 million, said the customs authorities.
