XRF analysers deliver simple, rapid and non-destructive analysis to identify precious metals content

Customs Court declares suspect involved in smuggling of precious stones as proclaimed offender

KARACHI: Customs Court judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has declared a suspect, Yasir, as proclaimed offender who allegedly attempted to smuggle precious stones from Bangkok to Pakistan worth Rs 10,38,000.

During the hearing, investigation officer S Azhar Mahdi appeared before the court and informed that the accused Yasir has not been arrested yet and proclamation proceedings has been completed, therefore, the court has declared him as proclaimed offender and directed the office of Customs Court that case be kept on dormant file till the arrest of the absconding accused.

According to the prosecution, on an credible information, on December 24, 2015 the staff of customs authorities and patrolling section found suspected 1 package at apron/ ramp scanning machine area which had arrived from Bangkok by Thai Airline’s flight no-TG-507 and during the examination recovered 5000 grams Ruby Pomaie Thai stones, 1100 grams Yellow semi precious stones, 1000 grams Blue Sapp Hire precious stones, Bro Folor semi precious stones and others precious stones total valuing Rs.10,38,000.

Case was registered by Senior Preventive Officer Muhammad Iqbal Javad, Customs House Karachi against violation of section 2(s), 16 & 32 of the Customs Act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) (90) and (14) of section 156(I) ibid read with section 3(I) of Import & Export Control Act. 1950.
