Customs Court extends judicial remand of accused involved in smuggling

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended judicial remand of the suspect for another 14 days.

According to details, Niaz Muhammad was arrested by the Customs authorities in a smuggling scam. Earlier, he was produced before the court where Customs Court accepted his physical remand for three days for investigation on the request of the investigation and prosecution team of the Faisalabad Customs and then sent to jail on the judicial remand.

Earlier, he was arrested by the Customs authorities when he was found involved in smuggling of foreign origin cloth.  The Customs team also asked him to prove that the recovered items were legally imported but he failed to produce any legal receipt and import record of the cloth.

Customs Faisalabad seized all the cloth and arrested him. According to data presented before the Court by Customs authorities value of the smuggled clothes is Rs 8 million. Clothes were smuggled through KPK and Peshawar rout from Afghanistan and most of the cloth is Chinese and Korean origin. The Customs authorities registered a case against suspect under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.
