LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved an extension of 14-day judicial remand of the accused arrested by the customs authorities from Lahore on the charge of smuggling powder milk by showing it as plastic raw material.
According to sources of Customs Today, an accused Zahid Rasheed was booked by the Customs Intelligence while he was trying to smuggle a huge quantity of powder milk of different brands. The Customs Intelligence, on a tip-off, intercepted a truck in the suburbs of Lahore city and found it loaded with the international branded powder milk.

The Customs teams found 9,349 bags of powder milk of different brands on the truck. The weight of the recovered powder is 232,000 kilograms. The worth of the recovered powder milk is Rs70million. Accused Zahid Rasheed caused the national kitty a big loss in the wake of taxes and duties.
The accused has also moved the Lahore High Court for the release of his confiscated powder milk.
Sources said the smuggled milk is made of America, Turkey, Holland, Korea and India. All of the milk was smuggled from these countries through different routes, especially from Afghanistan.
After the physical remand, he was sent to jail and now he is on the judicial trial. The customs authorities have registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
