LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the judicial remand of the accused in a gold smuggling case and sent the suspect to jail for another 14 days.
As per details available to Customs Today, the Airport Security Force recovered two and half kilograms gold from a passenger at Lahore Airport. The passenger, identified as Rai Umar, was on board for Sharjah flight on a private airline.
The clue of the gold was found on search through scanning machine at the airport. The ASF conducted the initial interrogation and handed over the suspect to the Custom Department for further investigation.
The customs team presented the accused before Customs Court, where Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan sent him to jail on judicial remand for 14 days.
It is necessary to mention here that worth of the gold is more than Rs 8 million in international market.
Meanwhile, in the customs court, 13 other cases were also scheduled for hearing on Thursday in which many cases were adjourned for the next dates. Cases of smuggling against Muhammad Shahid,Yosuf Khan and Wasim Butt were also scheduled for the day which are rescheduled.
Bail pleas of Noor Jan and Babar Sultan also adjourned up to next week. Both accused are in jail on judicial remand.
