KARACHI: The Customs Taxation & Anti-Smuggling Court extended physical remand of the accused person namely Muhammad Saleem son of Chand Muhammad and sent back him to customs department for July 10, 2017 who was booked in a attempting to smuggle contraband smuggled gold slabs weighing 413.320 grams.
During the hearing, investigation officer Shahzad Wasti appeared before the court and produced the above mentioned accused person and informed the court that dated June 29, 2017, officials of the preventive customs intercepted the suspect at international arrival hall, Jinnah International Airport Karachi and recovered gold slabs of total weighing 413.320 tentative value of Rs 1703909.
He further informed the court that during the search, accused was asked to produce legal documents of such goods, however, he did not produce any legal and lawful documents, therefore, he was arrested and above mentioned goods were seized. He requested the court prosecution needs further investigations, therefore, court may extended his physical remand.
After his arguments, court granted his request and sent back him to customs department and directed the investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2 (s) and 16 of Customs Act 1969 read with SRO-666/2006 punishable under clauses (8) of section 156 (i) ibid.
