Customs Court extends physical remand of suspects involved in betel nuts smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court extended physical remand of suspect namely Imran Ameeen son of Shaikh Koladi and sent back him to customs department, who was booked in a case of smuggling of contraband betel buts through gross mis-declaration in the garb of waste and cast iron scrap.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and seeks further remand of the accused, after hearing the arguments,  court sent back him back to customs department on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, customs officials lodged the third first information report against above mentioned suspects and others, investigation officer further informed that during the investigation, is has been established beyond any iota of doubt that said suspects in collusion with other accomplices in crime have indulged smuggling of above mentioned contraband betel nuts under the garb of waste and scrap of iron and cleared under HS Code 7204.4100. Hence they have, individually and collectively violated the provisions of section customs laws.

He further informed the court that case was registered against above mentioned suspects and investigation of the case is in progress to unearth the all sinister elements involved in this crime.

After the hearing, court has taken FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation including arrest of suspects and file progress report on next date of hearing.
