Customs Court extends remand of couple in diamond, gold smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling extended judicial remand for 14 days of a couple allegedly involved in smuggling of gold, diamond and precious watches.

On the previous hearing, the Customs Investigation and Prosecution team had presented an investigation challan against the couple when the court sent them to jail on judicial remand after expiry of the physical remand.

As per detail, the customs authorities at Lahore airport recovered smuggled diamonds, 2.5 kg gold and 8 gold watches of Rado brand worth Rs 15 million from passengers named Rana Muhammad Rafique Farooq and his spouse Sara Adnan travelling from Sharjah to Lahore.

After arresting them, the Customs Investigation team presented them to the court and got their physical remand for further interrogation. However, the hearing of the case has also been adjourned for new date of next week.
