LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted pre-arrest bail to Mian Waqas Riaz, one of the directors of Hasseb Waqas Sugar Mills in a tax evasion case.
Mian Waqas had approached the court seeking pre-arrest bail in a tax evasion case. The court after hearing of arguments of the FBR’s counsel and the accused party approved the pre-arrest bail plea.
Earlier, Hafiz Irfan Butt, another director of Haseeb Waqar Sugar Mills, obtained pre-arrest bail. His bail was cancelled by the Customs Court, but he approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) and got his bail.
In September 2015, the FBR started action against the owners and directors of sugar mills following the charges of tax evasion amounting to Rs 1 billion. The company had not paid taxes on imported machinery.
