Customs Court grants bail to alleged corrupt official of customs

ISLAMABAD: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court granted bail to customs inspector, allegedly involved in taking bribe while clearing the consignments at Islamabad Dry Port.

According to the details, Customs Court Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan heard the case of accused Inspector Abdul Hafez. The suspect has been alleged that he assessed the import consignment at lesser rates to facilitate the importers in duty tax evasion and take kickbacks causing loss to national kitty.

The counsel for accused, Raja Gul Faraz Ahmed argued before the court that his client is innocent as he has been collected customs duty from the importer at the rates described by Pakistan Customs. He also pleaded the court to confirm the bail of the inspector.

After hearing the arguments, the judge granted bail to the accused, besides directing the officials not to harass him.
