Customs Court grants bail to Shaukat Ali in plastic material smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved post-arrest bail plea of Shaukat Ali in a case of smuggling of Iranian plastic raw material.

Earlier, he was in jail on judicial remand for fourteen days. Special judge of Customs Court Chaudhry Ameer Muhammad Khan approved the bail of Shaukat Ali against surety bonds and cash guarantees. According to details, Shaukat Ali was arrested when the Customs Intelligence raided a warehouse in Shahdara area of Lahore.

During the raid, the customs team found a huge quantity of polyethylene material that was smuggled from Iran. The team seized all the smuggled material and arrested the owner of the material, Shaukat Ali, son of Miraj Din.

The total worth of the smuggled items was Rs 1.9 million and weight was 10,950 kilogrammes. A case was registered against Shaukat Ali under sections 2(s), 16, 156(1) and 178 of the Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.
