Customs Court grants bail to suspect booked in Copyright Act

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim bail to a suspect, Nadir Shah, proprietor of M/s Nadir Electronics who was booked under the Copyright Act.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Shaukat Ali Malahn, submitted interim challan against the accused before the court which was accepted. Meanwhile, the counsel for the accused filed an application for after arrest bail and submitted that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case. After the arguments, the court granted him interim bail and also directed the accused to appear before the court on the next date of hearing and join investigations when required by investigation officer.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered against the suspect on the complaint of Muhammad Qaiser, manager operation, M/s KAD & Co International for selling pirated products containing name “Commsscope”. An FIA team raided M/s Nadir Electronics, Dubai Market, Sadder, Karachi, and recovered a huge quantity of pirated/ replicated/ smuggled/ imported products with logo of “Commsscope”.

As per FIR, accused Nadir Shah was asked to produce legal and lawful documents of this goods but he failed to produce anything to legitimate its status. Therefore, after fulfilling the formalities, the FIA team arrested him and case was registered against him under section 15, 156 (1) of Customs Act 1969 read with section 56, 66, 66-A Copyright Ordinance 1962.
