Customs Court grants bail to suspect allegedly involved in tax evasion

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim pre-arrest bail to Kashif son of Kazim Hussain. The suspect was involved in duty and taxes evasion of Rs 15.6 million.

During the hearing, counsel for the suspect filed an application for interim pre-arrest bail and argued that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case. The council said that Kashif is ready to face trail and the court may grant him bail till the final disposal of this case.

After the hearing, the court granted him bail and observed in its order that, “without touching the merits of the case, interim pre-arrest bail is granted to Kashif son of Kazim Hussain subject to furnishing of surety bonds in the sum of Rs 200,000.” The court also issued notice to the special prosecutor for Customs Department and called police papers. The court also directed the accused to join the investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against the above named accused person in violation of section 156 (1) (14) (14A) (81) and (82) of the Customs Act 1969.
