Customs Court hears 17 cases on Wednesday

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling heard 17 important cases and issued necessary orders and directions in a number of cases.

On Wednesday, 17 cases of different types were scheduled for hearing, including 2 pre-arrest bail pleas of accused persons namely Shakeel Sayed and Fazal Badshah. Customs Court has adjourned both pleas for next week.

A case against Tariq Kazmi was also scheduled for hearing in which accused who is on bail was present before the court. Customs Court heard the arguments from customs prosecution and accused party. Accused party lawyer said that his client was unaware about the laws of bringing mobile phones from Dubai to Pakistan so he must be acquitted from the case as court has already confiscated the mobile phones recovered from his possession.

Customs Court also heard tax evasion case of sugar mills and adjourned the same without any proceedings.  An application moved by customs investigation in smuggling case against Muhammad Kashif was also adjourned for next date. Customs Court also adjourned various cases of smuggling.

The total cases of such kind were five, which were scheduled for hearing. The cases, including tax evasion, customs, smuggling and narcotics, were also scheduled for the day. The court also proceeded on statements and witnesses on four different cases on the day.
