Customs Court imposes penalty on cell phone smuggler

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on a mobile phone smuggler and ordered his release when he pleaded guilty to the offense. A case was filed against Muhammad Hanif, on the charge of smuggling mobile phones into the country. Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi announced the verdict when the accused pleaded guilty in the court.

According to the prosecution,  around 198 mobile phones were seized by Pakistan Customs from a passenger, Hanif, who was travelling from Dubai to Karachi. The suspect had strapped 198 mobile phones in his luggage bag to hide them. The seized cell phones are worth Rs 2 million, said the customs authorities
