Lahore: Customs court without permanent judge since two months

LAHORE: Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling has been working without permanent judge for last two months as previous judge Tanveer Akbar has been transferred to Rawalpindi.

No permanent Judge is appointed even after two months which is creating huge problems for the citizens.

Applicants are facing problems in Customs Court working without a permanent appointment of judge. Tanveer Akbar was transferred on January 2, 2015, however, no other judge has taken charge of in his place. Mr. Akbar is appointed by Islamabad High Court on deputation since January 2014.

After his transfer special Judge of Banking crimes is monitoring the cases of smuggling, customs and taxation, affecting his performance at banking court as well.

There is only one Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling court in Punjab with a divisional bench at Rawalpindi. Cases of Lahore, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Gujranwala were heard in Customs Court Lahore.

According to senior official of the court, it is expected that the new judge will take charge of the post within few days after further orders from Islamabad High Court.
