KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against suspects namely Muhammad Aslam son of Fazal Rehman and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing, who is absconding in a case of attempting to smuggle 5000 kilograms betel nuts.
On June 1, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted interim charge sheet against the above-mentioned suspect and arrested suspect namely Abdul Sattar son of Abdul Ghaffar and informed the court that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted one Renault truck bearing registration no TLE-200 and during the search found 250 PP bags containing foreign origin betel nuts 5000 kilograms worth Rs1,029,000.
He argued that after the formalities, customs teams arrested above-mentioned suspect and goods were also taken into custody.
He submitted that during the investigation, it is established that said accused persons have thus committed an offence under Section 2 (s) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause (89) of Section 156 (i) ibid.
After the hearing, court approved interim charge sheet and issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspect and directed investigation officer to arrest and produce him on next date of hearing. The court also directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet against them.
