Customs Court issues NBWs of accused involved in mobile phones smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspect namely Muhammad Sami son of Hameedur Rehman, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband 317 mobile phones.

On August 17, 2018, investigation officer submitted interim charge-sheet against the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that a spot information was received that a consignment consisting of 2 cartons containing assorted foreign origin non duty paid mobile phones arrived from Sialkot is dumped at M/s Pak Afghan Goods Transport Company Cantt, Railway Station Karachi for delivery to its owner/claimant.

He submitted that pursuant to the said information a customs teams was constituted to intercept the consignment on the spot, accordingly the customs team reached the identified area and recovered the said consignment consisting of 2 cartons containing 317 assorted brand foreign origin mobile phones without documents of its import.

He submitted that customs officials seized 286 Motorolla mobile phones, 16 Oppo smart phones valuing at Rs3,278,000.

He further argued that during investigation, it has been established that the accused persons Nadeem transferred the smuggled mobile phones to accused Sami and used the local medium of Railway to camouflage the law enforcement authorities but intercepted by the customs officials, hence it has been concluded that the accused willfully attempted to smuggle the non-duty paid mobile phones and violated under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) and Section 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with relevant provisions of allied acts punishable under Section 156 (1) (8) & (89) ibid.

He said that prosecution is trying its best for arrest of absconding accused and he will be produced when arrested, After the hearing, court accepted interim charge sheet and issued non-bailable warrant against absconding suspect.
