Customs court issues NWBs against 32 importers booked for tax evasion

KARACHI: The Customs court issued non-bail able warrants against 32 importers & clearing agents and others, and directed investigation officer to arrest them and produce before the court who were booked in a mega tax fraud case.

On Thursday, investigation officer argued that prosecution is trying its best for arrest of the absconding accused and they will be produced when arrested; therefore, the court issued their non-bail able warrants and adjourned the matter for compliance.

Earlier, the investigation officer submitted interim charge-sheet and argued that during the investigation, it was revealed that accused Muhammad Sikander, proprietor of M/s Saba International, selling out of its industrial inputs, imported for in house consumption valuing at Rs3,008,417,360 (inclusive of both goods seized and previously cleared), in the local market and mis-declaration while filing monthly sales tax returns and as such have been found involved in the fiscal fraud, involving duties/taxes, amounting to Rs 825 603,797 (inclusive of both goods seized and previously cleared), as defined under Section 32 (1) (2) and 32A read with Section 79 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (14) & (14A) of Sub Section (1) of Section 156 ibid read with Section 3, 6, 7A, 33 and 34 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, further read with section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

Meanwhile, the court issued non-bail able warrants against Syed Shaheen Ahmed, proprietor of M/s Continental Industrial Equipment, Ubaid Ali Ghanchi, proprietor of M/s Multi Textile, Syed Inquesam Haider, proprietor of M/s Daily International, Muhammad Shamsher Ali Khan, proprietor of M/s Grace Enterprises, Ghulam Hussain, proprietor of M/s Arham Textile, Muhammad Junaid, proprietor of M/s Rangooli Enterprises, Noor Ahme Shaikh, proprietor of M/s Noor Traders, Atta ur Rahman, proprietor of M/s Fine Prodcuts Enterprises, Hussain Ali, M/s Glaxo Impex, Ms. Lubna Farooq, proprietor of F.A Brothers, Kamran, proprietor of M/s Kamran Brothers, Maqbool Ahmed, proprietor of M/s Artistic Embroidery, Qazi Muhammad Saeed, proprietor of M/s A.M Towels, Muhammad Sajid Munir, proprietor of M/s Al-Hamd and others.
