RAWALPINDI: Customs Court on Saturday declared Model Ayyan Ali a proclaimed offender in the currency smuggling case and issued non-bailable arrest warrant against her, according to media reports.
Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta also ordered to seize her transferable and non-transferable assets.
Dismissing the appeal filed by the model’s counsel to grant her some more time to appear before the court, the judge gave orders for her arrest.
The court also issued show cause notices to the two guarantors, Shaukat and Nawaz, and gave orders to confiscate their surety bonds of worth Rs5.5 lakhs.
The next hearing of the case will be held on March 18 during which the court is expected to issue red warrant for the accused.
Ayyan Ali was arrested in March 2015 by the Airport Security Force (ASF) at the Benazir International Airport.
She was carrying $506,800 in cash that she was allegedly trying to smuggle to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ayyan spent four months in Adiala jail and the government also put her name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
However, she was granted bail in July 2016 and subsequently flew to Dubai after a court ordered removal of her name from the no-fly list.
