LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has recorded the statements of the witnesses and adjourned the hearing of a case for November 7.
A case of statues smuggling was scheduled for hearing before the Special Court of Muhammad Shakeel.
The customs registered the case against three accused including Ammar, Gulzar and Muhammad Hassan. They were arrested on the charges of smuggling of 50 antique dolls, 313 costly coins and two plates as well of Mogul era. Two customs officials were also held on the charges of helping the smuggling of these items. They had got bails from the court.
The customs court hand ordered the customs authorities to hand over these statues to the management of the Lahore Fort for keeping them in the museum.
On the other hand, another accused of the case, Ammar, has been released on a pre-arrest bail. He was involved in the smuggling of these statues from Peshawar into Lahore and then intended to smuggle them into Bangkok.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, 12 other cases were also scheduled for hearing before the customs court. Most of the cases were put off without any proceedings because of the unavailability of the parties concerned and lawyers of the cases.
A case against an accused apprehended from Sialkot in a mobile-smuggling case was also scheduled for the day that has been adjourned for the next week. Another case of tax evasion of Gujranwala has also been postponed for next Thursday where the court has asked for witnesses.
