LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of the Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling adjourned a case against an accused as customs investigation team has submitted an investigation challan of the case.
Earlier, the customs court approved a 14-day judicial remand of the accused arrested by the customs authorities from Lahore on the charge of smuggling powder milk by showing it as plastic raw material.
According to sources of Customs Today, an accused Zahid Rasheed was booked by the customs intelligence while he was trying to smuggle a huge quantity of powder milk of different brands into the country. The customs intelligence, on a tip-off, intercepted a truck in the suburbs of Lahore city and found it loaded with international branded powder milk. Afterwards, the customs intelligence raided a warehouse and found 9349 bags of the powder milk there. The powder milk weighs 232,000 kilograms. The worth of the milk is Rs70million.
The smuggled milk was brought from America, Turkey, Holland, Korea and India. All the milk was smuggled from these countries by different routes, especially from Afghanistan’s.
A team of customs investigation presented the accused, Zahid Rasheed, before the court and asked for the remand of five days to complete investigation.
After giving hearings to both sides, the court had handed over the accused to investigation team for two days. He was again presented before the court for further legal proceedings wherefrom he was remanded to jail on a 14-day extension.
The customs authorities have registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
