Customs Court puts off under-invoicing case; name of accused put on ECL

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the hearing of an alleged tax evader for Monday whose post-arrest bail plea was approved. The name of the accused has been put on the Exit Control List.

Accused Muhammad Saqlain was involved in an under-invoicing in the import of goods. He was arrested while trying to flee the country.

Last month, customs court granted his bail against the surety bonds of Rs 500,000. Accused Saqlain had paid his bonds of Rs 500,000 and had been freed from the jail.

Meanwhile, the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Tuesday heard 16 cases including pre-arrest bail pleas filed by suspects.

Most of the cases were put off without any proceedings as the parties and lawyers concerned did not appear before the court.

Hearing of pre-arrest bail pleas filed by accused Abdul Razaq and Salman were adjourned for new dates in the next week. A case against Arbaz Khan was also scheduled for hearing in which court recorded the statements of the parties.

Final arguments and statements of the parties concerned in a case of smuggling against Rafique Ali were also scheduled for hearing which is rescheduled for next week. On Tuesday, cases of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan were scheduled for hearing on Tuesday.

Important cases of tax evasion, smuggling of mobile phones, cloths and auto-parts were also scheduled for hearing that the court has adjourned for new dates of next week and some are postponed for the end of the month.
