KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit final charge-sheet against suspects, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle assorted Q-Mobiles and other goods in garb of LED lights (bulbs).
The suspects include M/s Digicom Chief Executive Officer Zeeshan Akhtar; Director Zeeshan Yousaf, son of Yousaf, and others.
On Thursday, investigation officer sought further time to file final charge sheet. He also informed the court that absconder Zeeshan Akhtar could not be arrested yet. The court adjourned the matter until August 9, 2018 and re-issued non-bailable warrants against the absconders.
According to the interim charge sheet, the Anti-Smuggling Organization, on credible information, raided Sadder Central Plaza, Karachi and found that one container no-KKFU-72555703 loaded on a trawler noTLT-374 was parked there. In presence of two musheers, search was carried out by the ASO officials, who found huge quantity of mobile phones stuffed in the container.
The court was informed that the said container loaded on the vehicle was brought at ASO/HQ and a thorough search was conducted again in the presence of said musheers and recovered 27,200 QMobile phones, 35,790 other assorted brands and models mobile phones, 531 Amazon tablets which were smuggled by the suspects in garb of LED lights, while value of the smuggled goods is Rs284,470,000 and the suspects evaded the duty and taxes in the tune of Rs103,702,340 approximately.
The investigation officer further informed the court that no suspect has been arrested yet; however, they are trying their best to arrest them.
