LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected bail plea of an accused Aqil Shah who was arrested from Lahore in a smuggling case.

Lawyers of the accused Aqil Shah argued before the court that their client is not guilty in this case as he was not informed about the legality of the goods which were loaded on his truck.

Lawyer further argued before the court that that their client was just driving the truck and all goods were loaded by a goods transport company from Quetta so court should accept his bail.

On the other hand, the customs counsel opposing the arguments submitted by Aqil Shah, said that a big network was involved in smuggling from FATA and Baluchistan and the arrested accused is part of this network. The customs judge after hearing arguments rejected the bail plea of Aqil Shah.

Earlier, it was reported by Customs Today that a team of customs intelligence seized non-customs paid items worth millions of rupees and arrested the suspect identified as Aqil Shah.

The customs team stated before the court that recovered items includes 1,154 kilogram of cloth, 2,555 kilogram soap and 1,850 kilogram welding rods worth Rs 5.6 million.

Customs intelligence has also confiscated a truck TKY 965 loaded with these smuggled goods.

The arrested accused is a resident of Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Balochistan.
