Customs court seeks comments on petition filed by suspect booked in assault on officials

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi issued notices to special prosecutor for Customs Department and investigation officer on bail petition filed by suspect namely Sher Ali Khan, who was booked in a case of obstruction, hindrance, threatening, molestation and assaults on officers/officials of Customs in the discharge of duty.

On Friday, counsel for the above-mentioned suspects appeared before the court and filed bail petition and argued that his counsel is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case; therefore, court may grant his bail till final judgment in this case.

On last date of hearing, investigation officer had produced the suspect before the court and informed that on a credible information, a team of Customs Preventive intercepted a smuggled/ non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser (Parado) jeep bearing registration no BC-9004 and driver was asked to show legal documents; however, he called other persons and started abusing/ assaulting the customs team with the aim of physical manhandling with government officials during the discharge of their officials duties. He also called some other armed sinister persons for their support and threatened the customs team with the dire consequences.

He had submitted that the claimant of the said vehicle took the advantage imbroglio situation and of the mob assembled there, and took away the impugned vehicle from the reach of customs and escaped. However, the above-mentioned suspect was arrested and after the formalities, a case was registered against him.
