KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit final charge-sheet against suspect namely Muhammad Junaid son of Abdul Sattar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty-paid gold jewellery.
On Friday, the investigation officer appeared before the court and argued that investigations are still under process. He also sought further time to submit final charge-sheet on next date of hearing. After the hearing, the court granted his request and directed him to submit final challan on next hearing.
Earlier, investigation officer had produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that at the International Departure Hall of Jinnah International Airport, an inspector of Airport Security Force (ASF) approached the SPS I/C shift Pakistan Customs with the custody of said passenger, having British passport, leaving for Dubai by Emirates Airlines.
Investigation officer further informed the court that during the manual checking which resulted in the recovery of 1,277 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs5,746,500 and he was asked to produce lawful documents.
However, he failed to produce any lawful documents; therefore, after the formalities, he was arrested and the gold was also seized by the officials.
After hearing, the court sent him to jail on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge-sheet against him on next date of hearing. The court also directed jail authorities to produce suspect on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, the case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 139 of the customs act, 1969, punishable under clause (8) (89) & (70) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (iii) of Import and Export (Control) Act, 1950 & baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/6/2006.
