Customs Court sends accused on 14 days physical remand

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent an accused to jail on judicial remand of 14 days in a tax evasion case.

Suspect, Manzoor Ahmad, who owned a textile factory, has been charged for tax evasion. He had also moved a petition to get post-arrest bail from the court that the court has adjourned the hearing for next week.

Sources told that he was allegedly involved in tax evasion by submitting fake tax returns and other statements to the FBR by evading Rs 80 million in wake of sales tax from 2013-14.

On intelligence information, the Inland Revenue (IR) team raided the factory and arrested the owner. A case was registered against him under Pakistan Sales Tax Act.

Later, he was produced before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan seeking his physical remand, which was granted.
