Customs court sends suspect on physical remand booked in diesel smuggling

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashid sent an accused namely Abdul Jabbar S/o Haji Abdul Rahan to Customs Department lockup on physical remand till March 04, 2017 who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 25,000 litre HSD oil into interior Sindh from Hub Balochistan.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced him before the court and submitted that the said accused had been absconder since long, however he was arrested on the last date of hearing when court had rejected his pre-arrest bail application. He further informed the court that prosecution needs his physical remand for further investigation. After his arguments, the court sent him to Customs Department and directed the investigation officer to produce him before the court on the next date of hearing along with a progress report.

It needs to be pertained here that on the last date of hearing, counsel for applicant/accused had filed pre-arrest bail application and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case who is ready to face trail therefore the court may grant him bail till the final disposal of the case. However, counsel for the customs department opposed his bail application.
