Customs Court sends suspected HSD smugglers to jail

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Muhammad Ameen son of Haji Sahib Khan and Haji Abdullah son of Abdul, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid 13,035 liters high speed diesel (HSD), to Central Jail on judicial remand.

On November 14, 2018, investigation officer produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted a Hino oil tanker bearing registration no: JQ-0850 and found 13,035 liters HSD.

He further informed the court that during the raid, accused were asked to produce lawful documents, which they failed to produce; the accused were arrested and said goods were taken into custody.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigations from them; therefore, the court may send them back. After the hearing, the court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigations on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of Section 2 (s) 156(2) 157(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid.
