Customs Court sends suspects to jail involved in HSD oil smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court Judge Syed Fiaz Rasool Rashdi sent suspect namely Anwar son of Ghulam Qadir and Abdul Samad son of Abdul Wahab to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 22400 liters of Iranian HSD oil.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a credible information, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TKN-577 and during the search recovered 22400 litters Iranian HSD oil which was smuggled from Iran through Baluchistan for disposal in local market.

He submitted that suspects failed to produce any lawful documents of the said HSD oil, therefore, customs authorities seized it along with Hino truck.

After his arguments, court sent them to jail and directed jail authorities to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969, punishable under section (1) read with sub-section (2) of section 156 ibid.
