Customs Court sends suspects to jail in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Muhammad Ishaque, Muhammad Imran and Jamal Abdul Nasir to Central Jail on judicial remand who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle/non-duty paid high speed diesel.

On January 5, 2019, investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization MCC, Hyderabad produced above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, prosecution intercepted 10 wheeler Hino Oil Tanker bearing registration no TKV-777 and 10 wheeler Hino Oil Tanker bearing registration no TKM-553 which coming from Balochistan to interior Sindh at Chini Link Road near police station Bhen Saeedabad district Jamshoro.

He submitted that during the search, prosecution found total 55,000 litters HSD, brought in the country through un-authorized route and without payment of duty and taxes leviable thereon. Suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods along with oil tankers were taken into custody and suspects were also arrested.

He stated that prosecution needs further investigations from them, therefore, the court may grant their physical remand; however, the court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit challan on next date of hearing.
