Customs decides to take action against goods transporters

SIALKOT: The Customs authorities have decided to launch crackdown on goods transporters, involved in smuggling of various items from neighbouring countries to Gujranwala division.

Official sources said that there were hundreds of goods transporters who were involved in smuggling goods therefore it was not possible for the Customs Department to check the menace at once.

The Customs Department officials believe the good transporters and forwarders were directly or indirectly involved in the smuggling of the auto parts, computer parts, clothes, tyres of different vehicles, tea, mobile phones, LCDs, LEDs from Afghanistan, India and China to Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

The officials, requesting anonymity, revealed that the goods transporters supply the smuggled goods to the local markets in the region, causing the big financial loss to the government. They said that the Customs Department has established several checking teams and anti-smuggling squad to check these goods transports.
