KARACHI: In a bid to curb smuggling of foreign currencies and gold at airports, the Customs Department has developed a computerised system to record details of every passenger.
The Karachi Customs Preventive’s Air Freight Unit (AFU) of MCC Preventive Karachi would install the system at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
The currency declaration desks have already been established both at the international arrival and departure lounges of the airport where passengers can make their declaration as per State Bank of Pakistan Regulations.
As per the SBP regulations, an adult passenger cannot carry foreign currency more than $10,000 at one time and $60,000 during a year.
Collector Preventive Saifuddin Junejo has endorsed the computerised system, a brainchild of Additional Collector AFU Asad Raza Rizvi.
After implementing the new anti-smuggling system, the Customs officials would be able to record and monitor influx and outflux of foreign currency in the country and no passenger would be able to take foreign currency more than the prescribed limit.
