MULTAN: Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested eight shopkeepers on the charges of selling Direct-to-Home (DTH) digital receivers and other equipment in Multan, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan Regions.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Federal Investigation Agency along with teams of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) launched a crackdown on illegal sale of Direct-to-Home (DTH) technology in the South Punjab.
During joint action of Customs Intelligence, Federal Investigation Agency and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority they have conducted surprise raids in the Hussain-e-Agahi Market Multan.
Raiding teams nabbed four shopkeepers from Multan, three Dera Ghazi Khan and two from Muzaffargarh Region. Arrested shopkeepers include Nouman Bukhari, Asad Ali, Sajjad Hussain, Muhammad Imran, Farrukh Hussain, Muhammad Yasir and Allah Wasaya from different electronic shops.
Shopkeepers resisted against the action of Customs Intelligence and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and local police were called on the spot to control the law in order situation after unrest from traders.
The FIA and Customs teams also recovered more than 200 receivers, 350 dish antennas and other materials from their possession during their action. FIA has also lodge FIR against accuse and further investigations were still under process.
Meanwhile traders staged protest against the action of Customs Intelligence and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
