Customs foils bid to smuggle 10,500 mobile phones worth Rs135m

LAHORE: Customs Preventive team deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of mobile phones and some other items including computer tablets and mobile accessories.

Sources told Customs Today, air freight unit of Pakistan customs at Allama Iqbal International airport foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of cell phones that were booked on fake GD files.

Additional Collector Customs Farrukh Sharif and Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir were present there at that time when customs took action against the accused. The accused were trying to clear the consignment on fake airway bill.

Customs has registered a case and arrested two accused Asim and Adeel. Further investigation is underway. Both accused have been shifted to an unknown place for further investigation. Worth of the smuggled cell phones is more than Rs 135 million in Pakistan and the accused have made a huge loss to national kitty by smuggling of these mobile phones.
