HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Hyderabad took into possession 105,000 liter of smuggling Iranian diesel, four oil tankers, fabrics, cigarettes and other goods worth Rs30.1million including customs duties and taxes during Fiscal Year December 2017-18.
Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq started different campaigns against the smuggling during Financial Year 2017-18 and impounded above said items. The collector formed raiding teams under the supervision of Additional Collector Dr Aamer Nawaz Hamid, Deputy Collector (HQ). The team, comprising Superintendent ASO Hyderabad Customs Preventive, Sikander Akbar Panhwar, Inspector Rana Shabaz, Inspector, Majeed Barich, Inspector, Shakeel Khan, Inspector, Amdad Ali Abro and other staff, took part in the operations.
However customs officials took action against the corrupt customs officials under section 2 (s) 16 and 157 of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clause (8) &(89) of Section 156 (1) of the Customs Act-1969 and 157 (2) of Customs Act-1969.
Sources told Customs Today that MCC Hyderabad Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq praised the performance of the anti-smuggling organization by saying that the collectorate is improving its performance by impounding Iranian diesel measured 105,000 liter including four oil tankers valued at Rs26million of duties and taxes. The seizure of other contraband items including cigarettes and other various items are worth Rs3.1million during the anti-smuggling drive.
The sources told CT that Collector Customs Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq ordered the officials of the ASO to adopt a zero tolerance against the smugglers who are out to destroy the legal business of the city.
