LAHORE: The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation showed outstanding performance by impounding contraband goods worth Rs 312 million involving tax theft of Rs 182 million from July to January for the financial year 2014-15.
As per details, Customs I&I Lahore anti-smuggling wing conducted various anti-smuggling raids and registered 71 cases after confiscating items including cloth, tyres & tubes, auto parts, oil, cigarettes, electronics, blankets, cosmetics, plastic granules, Iranian tiles, vehicles and other such items.
The anti-smuggling team has registered nine case during July and impounded goods and vehicles worth Rs 76 million involving tax theft worth Rs 51 million while in the next month the team impounded illegal items worth Rs 93 million involving tax theft worth Rs 41 million during the period under review.
The Customs I&I seized contraband items worth Rs 14 million involving tax theft worth Rs 14 million during the month of September while in the month of October the anti-smuggling team confiscated articles and vehicles worth Rs 61 million involving tax theft worth Rs 32 million.
Similarly, the directorate impounded illegal goods and articles worth Rs 11 million involving tax theft worth Rs 7 million in 17 cases.
Finally, the directorate seized goods worth above Rs 38 million in 13 cases involving tax theft worth Rs 17 million during the month of January 2015.
Official sources said that the crackdown on illegal import of goods was undertaken by the anti-smuggling team of the directorate on the instructions and information of Intelligence and Investigation Lahore Director Imtiaz Ahmad Khan and Additional Director Mohsin Rafique.
The crackdowns against smugglers were conducted by the anti-smuggling team consisting of deputy superintendents and inspectors including Asad Farooq, Arif Naveed, Maqsood Butt, Zulfiqar, Nadeem Ahsan, Hamad Babar, Abid Javaid, Khawaja Zia, Muhammad Hussain and Asad Atta Rabbani on various roads, including Multan Road, motorways, Ravi Road, Shera Kot and Faizpur interchange, under the supervision of superintendents, including Nasir Minhas, Chaudhary Fiaz and Munawar Khan.
