KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized 5,982 liters of beer, 1,502 liters of assorted wine/whiskey from two containers lying at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT).
Sources said that Director General Intelligence and Investigation Abdul Rsheed Shaikh received credible information about credible information about foreign origin liquor lying at Karachi International Container Terminal. He immediately directed Director Khalil Yousafani to seize foreign origin liquor.
Subsequently, Additional Director Rana Tasleem and Assistant Collector Majid Gaad arranged joint examination of the containers. Appraising Officers Rasheed Burni and Umair Soomro conducted the examination along with the staff of Appraisement West.
Earlier, Abdul Rasheed Shaikh coordinated with the Chief Collector Appraisement South Suriyya Butt, and examination was conducted, which led to recovery of liquor.
The containers were imported by M/s En Rui Development (Pvt) Ltd. The liquor along with other miscellaneous goods have been seized and criminal proceedings in the case are underway.
The newly posted Collector MCC Appraisement West Tahir Qureshi facilitated the joint examination of these containers and he is also activating the R&D of MCC Appraisement West, which was idle lately.
Moreover, R&D will also compile details of all the containers lying at KICT for long and the GDs have not been filed.
